The Bamboo Bubby Bag™ is an adjustable sleeping bag for babies and toddlers with built-in fold-back mitten sleeves. The mitten ends can be folded open for the child to use their hands, or folded closed at sleep time to sit between fingernails and skin. Sleeve length adjusts via snap-press buttons to grow with the child from approximately 6 months to over 2 years.
Multi-award winning. Compliant with Australian/New Zealand Safety Standard for Children's Nightwear (AS/NZ 1249.2003).
Fabric: 70% bamboo viscose, 30% organic cotton. Single-layer construction. TOG rating 1-1.5 (suitable for moderate climates and as a year-round bag with appropriate underlayers).
Available in Turquoise Blue, Sage Green, and Fuchsia Pink.
Why families use a sleeping bag with built-in mittens
- Hands enclosed at sleep time, free during the day. The Adjust-a-Sleeve™ design uses a fold-back mitten — folded open, the child has full use of their hands; folded closed, the fabric sits between fingernails and skin. This is useful for children who scratch in their sleep but need their hands free during the day.
- Grows with the child. Snap-press buttons let you shorten the sleeve as needed, so a single bag fits from around 6 months through to 2+ years. No need to size up every few months.
- Stays on through the night. A sleeping bag enclosing the torso is harder to remove than wrist-only mittens, so the protection stays in place.
- Compatible with topical creams. Many parents put the bag on over emollients or prescribed creams to keep the cream on the skin rather than rubbing off on bedding.
- Suitable for transitioning out of swaddling. The bag's generous length and adjustable armholes are designed for babies who are old enough to roll (typically from around 4-6 months), in line with safe-sleep guidance for that age.
- Practical features. Double-ended zipper for night nappy changes without removing the bag; seatbelt slot compatible with 5-point harnesses in cars and prams.
About the fabric
The Bamboo Bubby Bag is single-layer fabric — 70% bamboo viscose, 30% organic cotton. Bamboo viscose is a regenerated cellulose fibre (see FAQ on rayon bamboo below). The single-layer construction is intentional: it gives the bag a moderate TOG rating (1-1.5) and lets you adjust warmth by what you dress your child in underneath.
TOG rating and dressing your child
TOG is an international measurement of a sleeping bag's thermal effectiveness — higher numbers are warmer. The Bamboo Bubby Bag's 1-1.5 TOG is light-to-medium weight. Suggested clothing underneath (from the Bamboo Bubby guidance, aligned with Red Nose Australia):
- Room 24-28°C (hot): singlet and nappy, or nappy alone, plus the bag
- Room 20-24°C (warm): short-sleeved bodysuit or singlet plus the bag
- Room 16-20°C (cold): singlet plus long-sleeved bodysuit or onesie plus the bag
This is a guide — feel your baby's chest (not hands or feet) to check they're comfortably warm rather than hot or cold.
Safety standards
The Bamboo Bubby Bag complies with the Australian/New Zealand Safety Standard for Children's Nightwear (AS/NZ 1249.2003). Per that standard, the product carries a High Fire Danger label as a reminder to parents and carers about supervision near open fires and heaters.
For Australian safe-sleep guidance, refer to Red Nose Australia and speak with your GP, paediatrician, or maternal and child health nurse.

Frequently asked
How does this help a baby with eczema?
The sleeping bag isn't a treatment for eczema — it's a physical barrier between fingernails and skin during sleep. For babies who scratch in their sleep (often instinctively and without waking), the closed mitten ends and enclosed torso reduce the access fingers have to skin. Whether it's appropriate for your child is a question for your GP, paediatrician, or dermatologist.
Do I need to buy multiple sizes as my baby grows?
No. The adjustable sleeve design means one bag covers approximately 6 months to over 2 years. The cuff nearest the shoulder is the smallest setting (000/00); larger settings are at the cuffs closer to the hands. You can leave the buttons done up at one setting until your baby grows into the next.
Is the bamboo fabric antibacterial?
The bamboo plant has some natural antimicrobial activity, but the viscose manufacturing process used to convert bamboo to fabric can alter or remove those compounds. We don't make antibacterial claims for this product. The fabric is described by the manufacturer as breathable and gentle, which are the properties that matter for sleepwear.
What does "rayon bamboo" or "bamboo viscose" actually mean?
The bamboo plant cellulose is dissolved in a solvent and re-extruded as fibre (the rayon or viscose process). The end fabric is soft and breathable, but is a regenerated cellulose fibre — not a mechanically processed natural fibre like cotton, linen, or hemp.
What is TOG, and is 1-1.5 right for my climate?
TOG (Thermal Overall Grade) is a measure of a sleeping bag's warmth. Sleeping bags range from around 0.5 TOG (summer-weight) to 3.5 TOG (heavy winter). At 1-1.5 TOG, the Bamboo Bubby Bag is in the light-to-medium range — suitable as a year-round bag with appropriate underlayers in most Australian climates. For very cold rooms (below 16°C), additional layers or a higher-TOG bag may be needed.
Why does it have a High Fire Danger label?
The label is a requirement of the AS/NZ 1249.2003 safety standard that the bag complies with. The standard requires the label to remind parents and carers about the dangers of leaving children unsupervised in rooms with open fires and heaters. It does not mean the bag is unsafe — it means the bag has been designed and tested to a recognised Australian/New Zealand standard for children's nightwear.
When can my baby start using a sleeping bag with mittens?
The Bamboo Bubby Bag is designed for babies from approximately 6 months, when most babies are able to roll and have moved beyond swaddling. Red Nose Australia provides safe-sleep guidance on swaddling, sleeping bag use, and the age at which different sleep aids become appropriate. For an individual child, your GP, paediatrician, or maternal and child health nurse is the right person to advise.
Will the mitten irritate my baby's skin or hands?
The bamboo-cotton blend is breathable and soft, and the fold-back mitten construction means the same fabric covers the hands. Some children find any glove-like covering uncomfortable initially and adjust over a few nights; others don't take to it. Trying it during a short daytime sleep first can help judge fit and comfort.
Important note
These are pyjamas, not a medical device. We don't make claims about treating any health condition, including eczema. If you're considering them for a specific condition, please discuss with your GP or dermatologist — they're best placed to advise.

Let customers speak for us
from 15 reviewsThe product is great quality and was an easy order with very good communication. I have only had one night sleeping with it but was very pleasantly surprised . I must add , I think the cost is great value when compared to getting even a new doona that is adequate for the colder states in Australia . I had my down doona and pillows washed and commercially dried before putting them in the covers and the mattress is all encased now and it is a really big difference . 👍
Efficient postage, easy to put onto the mattress, duvet etc. Daughter finds it comfortable and soft.
We purchased mattress , pillow and duvet encasement for kids due to their dust mite allergy.
Quality is great and delivery was earlier than expected.
Shipping was fast and efficient. The quality of the pillow is so much better than the one we bought from kmart. However it's not for us as it's on the thick side and will cause back pain used for a long period
Great product that was delivered quickly. I really like how the SmartAir HEPA filters need replacing every 22 months instead of every six months like most air purifiers. Great value for money.
Comfy as I want it
I love my quilt cover and pillowcases!
Lovely quality and they’ve made all the difference to my allergies and therefore my sleep!
We ordered this mattress for my son who has a dust mite allergy - it arrived quickly (and in a box, which made it super easy to move to the room we needed it in) and it was easy to unpackage and get on the bed. So far he is finding it very comfortable to sleep on.
So far I’m really loving this doona cover. Very comfortable,
Great duvet! It's soft and keeps the dust away so I don't sneeze. It's just right for sleeping all year. I'm really happy with it!
