Frequently asked
Is this sheet set hypoallergenic?
Royal Comfort describes this fabric as hypoallergenic, anti-microbial, and odour-resistant. "Hypoallergenic" isn't a regulated term in Australia, so it doesn't carry a guaranteed standard across products. If you're managing a dust mite allergy specifically, the products designed to block allergen are tightly-woven mattress encasements and pillow encasements — those create the physical barrier that sheets alone can't.
Is this bamboo or microfibre?
Both — it's a 30% bamboo, 70% microfibre blend. Microfibre is a fine synthetic polyester-based fabric; it gives this sheet set its characteristic silky weight and smooth finish. The bamboo component adds breathability and moisture-wicking. This is a different construction to 100% cotton or a bamboo-cotton blend, and the soft feel comes primarily from the microfibre weave rather than the bamboo fraction.
What does the research say about sheets and dust mite allergens?
A few things worth knowing:
- Allergen levels track the bedroom, not the fabric. Allergen accumulation in bedding correlates with overall bedroom allergen levels — the surrounding environment matters more than any single product (Rains et al., 1999, Clinical & Experimental Allergy).
- Comprehensive bedroom control has been associated with improved outcomes; single interventions in isolation are less reliable. A 2024 meta-analysis found that combinations of mattress protectors, pillow protectors, quilt protectors, washing routines, humidity control, and air purification were associated with three times greater odds of patient-reported improvement in mite-sensitive participants (van Boven et al., 2024, World Allergy Organization Journal). An earlier 2008 Cochrane review found weaker evidence for any one measure on its own (Gøtzsche & Johansen, 2008).
- Regular washing reduces allergen load. Australian research at the University of Sydney found that washing at 55°C or higher kills 100% of dust mites, and that even a cold wash removes more than 90% of dust mite allergen (McDonald & Tovey, 1992, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology). Refer to your care label for the recommended wash temperature for this set.
I have a dust mite allergy — what's the most important bedding step?
The setup most supported by published research is comprehensive bedroom control:
- Encase the mattress first — this is where the highest allergen load accumulates
- Encase the pillow — your face is in contact with this for hours each night
- Encase the quilt — the quilt drapes directly over you
- Wash encasements and pillowcases regularly — at 55°C to kill mites, or cold wash to remove allergen if hot isn't possible
- Keep bedroom humidity below ~50% — dust mites struggle in drier air
- Consider air purification
These sheets are one component of a comfortable bedroom setup — the encasements and washing routine are doing the allergy management work. For advice specific to your situation, your GP or allergy specialist is the right person to speak to.

Let customers speak for us
from 14 reviewsEfficient postage, easy to put onto the mattress, duvet etc. Daughter finds it comfortable and soft.
We purchased mattress , pillow and duvet encasement for kids due to their dust mite allergy.
Quality is great and delivery was earlier than expected.
Shipping was fast and efficient. The quality of the pillow is so much better than the one we bought from kmart. However it's not for us as it's on the thick side and will cause back pain used for a long period
Great product that was delivered quickly. I really like how the SmartAir HEPA filters need replacing every 22 months instead of every six months like most air purifiers. Great value for money.
Comfy as I want it
I love my quilt cover and pillowcases!
Lovely quality and they’ve made all the difference to my allergies and therefore my sleep!
We ordered this mattress for my son who has a dust mite allergy - it arrived quickly (and in a box, which made it super easy to move to the room we needed it in) and it was easy to unpackage and get on the bed. So far he is finding it very comfortable to sleep on.
So far I’m really loving this doona cover. Very comfortable,
Great duvet! It's soft and keeps the dust away so I don't sneeze. It's just right for sleeping all year. I'm really happy with it!
