A soft, lightweight waffle-weave baby blanket from Kidz Kiss, made from 100% rayon bamboo and sized 140 × 120cm to suit a standard cot. The waffle weave is open and breathable, and adds gentle texture to a nursery without adding much weight.

Why families choose bamboo waffle for baby blankets

  • Soft against baby skin. Rayon bamboo has a very smooth fibre surface — softer than most cotton weaves and often compared to silk or cashmere in feel.
  • Lightweight and breathable. The waffle structure traps air in small pockets, which gives gentle warmth without heat build-up. Useful in Australia where overnight temperatures can swing widely through the year.
  • Year-round usable weight. Light enough for summer as a top cover; layered with a wrap or sleeping bag in cooler months.
  • Moisture management. Rayon bamboo absorbs moisture readily, which can help the surface against baby's skin feel less damp on warm nights.
  • Machine washable. Designed for frequent washing — which matters for baby bedding, since washing is the primary way bedding stays hygienic.

Frequently asked

What does "100% bamboo" actually mean for fabric?
This varies between manufacturers. In most retail baby bedding (including this one), "100% bamboo" means 100% of the fibre comes from bamboo cellulose — but the fibre itself is the regenerated rayon/viscose form, not raw bamboo. Genuine "mechanically processed" or "bast" bamboo fibre exists but is rare and feels much more like linen. If a bamboo product feels silky-soft, it's almost certainly rayon bamboo.

Is bamboo really antibacterial?
Bamboo as a raw plant has some natural antimicrobial activity. The rayon bamboo manufacturing process, however, can alter or remove those compounds — which is why peer-reviewed research is more cautious about bamboo viscose/rayon antibacterial claims than it is about, say, hemp or wool. We don't make antibacterial claims for this blanket.

Is this suitable for sensitive skin?
We don't make safety claims for specific medical conditions. Rayon bamboo is often chosen by families managing sensitive skin because the fibre surface is very smooth and the fabric is soft — but every child is different. For advice specific to your child's situation, talk to your GP, paediatrician, or dermatologist.

How does this compare to a hemp or cotton blanket?
Rayon bamboo is the softest of the three from new, but the most processed. Hemp is the most durable and has documented intrinsic antibacterial activity, but feels coarser. Cotton (especially organic cotton) is the middle ground — moderately soft, mechanically processed, widely available. None is "best" — it depends on what you want most.
