A compact travel size pillow with an adjustable water pouch base and a super-soft fibre comfort layer, encased in a 200 thread count cotton sateen cover. According to the manufacturer, this pillow is hypoallergenic.

Firmness is adjusted by adding or removing water from the fully sealed internal pouch — soft, medium or firm, depending on volume. As the head moves during sleep, the water redistributes to follow it. A fill funnel and wrench tool are included.

Mediflow cites a randomised crossover trial published in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Lavin, Pappagallo & Kuhlemeier, 1997) in which the water-based pillow showed statistically significant improvements in sleep quality and modest improvements in pain scores in 41 adults with benign neck pain. The study was funded by Mediflow and individual results vary — discuss bedding choices with your GP, physio or specialist if you're managing neck pain.

Suits side, back and stomach sleepers. Well suited to travellers who prefer adjustable support away from home.

Using this pillow in an allergy-aware bedroom

According to the manufacturer, this pillow is hypoallergenic. A review published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice (Wilson & Platts-Mills, 2018) found that the odds of successful avoidance are significantly higher with a multi-faceted approach — combining physical barriers, humidity control, washing routines and air purification — than with any single measure alone.

Encasing the pillow in a dust mite pillow protector is widely considered one of the most practical steps for reducing allergen exposure at the surface closest to your face. For a full guide to building an allergy-aware bedroom, visit our low allergen bedroom hub.

A complete allergy-aware bedroom typically includes:

  • Dust mite covers — physical barriers for your pillow, quilt and mattress
  • A dehumidifier — keeping humidity below 50% limits dust mite survival
  • An air purifier — reduces airborne allergen particles
  • A HEPA vacuum — helps reduce allergen from carpets, rugs and upholstery

It's worth noting that "hypoallergenic" is not a regulated or standardised term in Australia — there is no official threshold a product must meet to carry the label. The manufacturer's claim reflects their own assessment rather than a certified standard.
