7-in-1 indoor air quality monitor — PM2.5, PM10, CO₂, TVOC, temperature, humidity, noise

The Qingping Air Monitor Gen 2 (sold as the QP Pro 2 in the Smart Air range) is a 7-in-1 desktop air quality monitor with a 4-inch IPS touchscreen, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Sensirion-grade sensors for PM, CO₂, TVOC, temperature, and humidity. Compatible with the Qingping+ app and the Xiaomi Mi Home ecosystem. Available in Black and White.

Recognised with both iF Design Award and Red Dot Design Award, and available in two colours: Black ($235) and White ($245).

What it measures

  • PM2.5 — fine particulate matter (smoke, dust, pollen fragments, traffic pollution). Measured 0-999 µg/m³, ±10% accuracy, GrandWay laser sensor.
  • PM10 — coarse particulate matter (larger dust, pollen, mould spores).
  • CO₂ — carbon dioxide concentration. Measured by Sensirion SCD40 photoacoustic NDIR sensor — the industry-standard high-accuracy CO₂ measurement method.
  • TVOC — total volatile organic compounds (formaldehyde, benzene, cleaning product fumes, off-gassing from new furniture and paint). Sensirion SGP4x series with humidity compensation.
  • Temperature — Sensirion SHT4x.
  • Humidity — Sensirion SHT4x. Same sensor, dual measurement.
  • Ambient noise — measures sound pressure level in your environment.

Plus an outdoor environment snapshot via Wi-Fi: local time, weather forecast, outdoor AQI (Air Quality Index), and UV index — displayed alongside your indoor readings for at-a-glance comparison.

Why these sensors matter

Cheap air monitors use generic Chinese OEM sensors with ±20-30% accuracy and significant drift over time. The Qingping Gen 2 uses Sensirion sensors — a Swiss manufacturer whose sensors are used in commercial building-management systems, automotive HVAC, and medical devices. Sensirion publishes individual datasheets per sensor; the SHT4x complies with RESET®, WELL Building Standard™, and UL 2905 — the certifications used in green-building and healthy-building specifications.

This is the difference between an air monitor that's "approximately right" and one whose readings you can act on with confidence.

Built for at-a-glance use

  • 4″ HD IPS touchscreen with auto-brightness — clear in bright sunlight or dim bedroom
  • Multi-colour indicators per metric — green (normal) / yellow (slightly elevated) / red (high) — read your air at a glance without interpreting numbers
  • Readings refresh every second — see VOCs spike when you spray cleaner, see CO₂ rise as your bedroom fills
  • On-device historical data — 24-hour and 30-day trends per metric, viewable directly on the device or exported via the app
  • Alarm function — 9 built-in ringtones plus custom upload, multi-alarm, snooze, customisable schedules

Smart home and app connectivity

  • Qingping+ app (iOS and Android) — remote monitoring, historical data export, custom alerts
  • Xiaomi Mi Home / Xiaomi Home app — integrate with Mi-compatible air purifiers, fans, ventilators, humidifiers, and air conditioners for automated responses (e.g. switch on the air purifier when PM2.5 crosses a threshold)
  • Dual-band Wi-Fi — 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
  • OTA firmware updates — new features and refinements roll out automatically

What each metric means

  • PM2.5 is the WHO's most-monitored air pollutant. It's small enough to bypass respiratory defences and lodge in lung tissue and the bloodstream. Per the WHO, more than 90% of the global population lives in areas exceeding their air quality guidelines for PM2.5. Long-term exposure is associated with increased respiratory and cardiovascular disease risk per WHO and IARC. Indoor sources include cooking, candles, fireplaces, smoking, and outdoor pollution that infiltrates through windows and ventilation.
  • TVOC covers a broad range of gas-phase pollutants, including formaldehyde (classified by IARC as a Group 1 known human carcinogen), benzene, and various solvents. Indoor sources include new furniture and paint off-gassing, cleaning products, candles, cooking, and personal care products. Spikes are typically short-lived and respond quickly to improved ventilation.
  • CO₂ indicates ventilation quality, not a pollutant per se. Outdoor concentration is around 420 ppm; indoor levels above 1,000 ppm are associated in published research with reduced cognitive performance and short-term concentration impairment. Above 2,000 ppm, occupants typically report drowsiness or headaches. The fix is almost always ventilation — opening a window or improving HVAC airflow.

Pair with HEPA filtration

Measuring is the first step; reducing pollutant levels is the second. If your monitor consistently shows elevated PM2.5, an HEPA air purifier sized to the room is the standard response. If TVOC spikes are frequent, an air purifier with an activated carbon stage adds VOC adsorption alongside HEPA particle capture. If CO₂ stays high, the answer is ventilation, not filtration.

What it doesn't do

This is an air quality monitor, not a medical device. The readings are designed to inform decisions about ventilation and filtration; they're not a clinical diagnostic. If you're managing a specific health condition that's sensitive to indoor air quality, please discuss your environment with your GP or specialist — they're best placed to advise.

FAQs

What's the difference between the Pro 2 and the Lite?
The Pro 2 measures 7 metrics (adds CO₂, TVOC, PM10, and ambient noise vs the Lite); has a larger 4-inch touchscreen vs the Lite's smaller display; uses higher-end Sensirion sensors; and includes Wi-Fi dual-band, smart home integration, and OTA updates. The Lite measures the core 5 metrics (PM2.5, CO₂, temperature, humidity,
