Frequently asked
Is bamboo a good choice for dust mite allergy sufferers?
While no quilt fabric is a substitute for dust mite encasements, bamboo's breathability and moisture-wicking properties make it a comfortable choice for allergy-aware sleepers. Bamboo helps regulate temperature and reduce excess moisture — conditions that dust mites thrive in. For meaningful allergen reduction, pairing this quilt with a dust mite proof quilt encasement is the most effective step you can take.
What does the research say about quilts and dust mite allergies?
Published research consistently shows that allergen levels in quilts and quilt covers track overall bedroom allergen levels — meaning your quilt is part of the broader picture, not the whole answer. A Cochrane review found that single interventions in isolation show weaker results, while more recent research found that a comprehensive approach — combining mattress and pillow encasements, regular washing, humidity control and air purification — was associated with significantly greater odds of symptom improvement. Fabric choice alone is unlikely to make a meaningful difference without these other measures in place.
Should I use a quilt protector with this?
Yes. A dust mite proof quilt encasement creates a physical barrier between you and any allergens that accumulate inside the quilt fill over time. No matter how breathable or natural the fill, allergens will build up without an encasement. Browse dust mite quilt covers to find one sized for your quilt.
How often should I wash my quilt?
Every one to two weeks is the general recommendation for bedding used by allergy sufferers. Regular washing removes accumulated allergens from the cover fabric. Refer to the care label for the recommended wash temperature for this quilt before your first wash — and check whether that temperature is sufficient for your allergen reduction goals.
What's the difference between a quilt cover and a dust mite encasement?
A standard quilt cover is decorative and protects the quilt from surface soiling — but it is not a barrier against dust mites or their allergens. A dust mite encasement is made from tightly woven or membrane fabric specifically designed to prevent mites and allergens from passing through. If you have a dust mite allergy, an encasement is the functional product; a quilt cover is optional on top of that.
What's the single most important step for an allergy-aware bedroom?
Research points consistently to a comprehensive approach rather than any single product. The most effective setup typically includes:
- Dust mite encasements for your mattress, pillows and quilt
- Regular washing of all bedding
- A dehumidifier to keep indoor humidity below 50%
- An air purifier to reduce airborne allergen particles
- Allergen cleaning products for surfaces that can't be washed frequently

from 24 reviewsI would suggest this mattress and cover as a perfect solution to dust mite, also with regards to comfort it’s just what you need
I have not been able to sleep under a feather doona until now. The cover is wonderful & delivery was prompt.
Bought to remove neighbours' wood heater smoke from bedroom, works well, haven't checked out cost of replacement filters. Quick delivery, no issues.
Great quality, quick delivery and comfortable
Quick delivery, easy to setup and works great
This mattress encasement is a great solution and alternative to purchasing a new mattress for a child with dust mite allergy. The protected went on easily and provides leave of mind that whatever mites are living inside the mattress are trapped in there. Have purchased all of the products to protect our kids bed and are happy with them. Have been using for over one month now.
The quilt cover encasement feels like it's great quality. Have been using for about one month now and it's providing peace of mind that whatever is inside there can't get out. Washing the quilt weekly was not going to work as the quilt wouldn't have survived such regular washing, so this is an excellent solution.
Great quality cotton material, but it's a bit of a struggle to get onto the mattress.

The product is great quality and was an easy order with very good communication. I have only had one night sleeping with it but was very pleasantly surprised . I must add , I think the cost is great value when compared to getting even a new doona that is adequate for the colder states in Australia . I had my down doona and pillows washed and commercially dried before putting them in the covers and the mattress is all encased now and it is a really big difference . 👍
Efficient postage, easy to put onto the mattress, duvet etc. Daughter finds it comfortable and soft.

We purchased mattress , pillow and duvet encasement for kids due to their dust mite allergy.
Quality is great and delivery was earlier than expected.
Great product that was delivered quickly. I really like how the SmartAir HEPA filters need replacing every 22 months instead of every six months like most air purifiers. Great value for money.
Comfy as I want it
