The Devanti DH-002 is a compact 2 L compressor dehumidifier with photocatalyst filter and remote Smart Controller, suited to small spaces up to 30 m² (manufacturer-stated) — bathrooms, ensuites, small bedrooms, studies, walk-in robes and small laundries. 24-hour timer, auto-defrost mode, and two draining options — 2 L removable tank with overflow protection or continuous drainage via the supplied 1.5 m hose. Whisper-quiet operation under 30 dB.

Who it's for

Australian households needing an entry-level compact dehumidifier for a single small-to-medium room. Suits:

  • Bathrooms and ensuites
  • Small bedrooms
  • Walk-in robes and studies
  • Small laundries

As a compressor unit, it works most efficiently in warmer conditions (operating range 15–32°C) and is well-suited to year-round use in heated rooms, apartments and warmer climates. For very cold spaces (basements, unheated garages in winter), a desiccant unit such as the Ionmax Vienne ION630 will keep working where compressor models slow down. For genuinely small enclosed spaces (a wardrobe or single cupboard), a 600 ml or 1000 ml mini unit may be a better fit.

Key features and specifications

  • Type: Compressor (refrigerant) dehumidifier with photocatalyst filter

  • LCD display screen
  • Two draining options: 2 L removable tank OR continuous drainage via supplied 1.5 m water pipe
  • Auto-defrost mode (for cooler-end operation)
  • Photocatalyst filter (see "What it doesn't do" below)
  • Two carry handles for portability
  • Power: 65 W; 220–240 V AC, 50–60 Hz
  • Cable length: 120 cm
  • Noise: <30 dB
  • Dimensions: 24.5 × 13.7 × 37.5 cm
  • Colour: Black

How it works

  • Uses a refrigeration cycle to cool incoming air below its dew point
  • Moisture condenses on cold coils and drips into the collection tank
  • Dry air is then circulated back into the room
  • Most efficient at warmer temperatures; performance drops below ~15°C (Devanti's specified lower limit)
  • Auto-defrost mode periodically clears frost from the coils so the unit keeps operating reliably towards the cooler end of its range

The research behind humidity control

The key research findings for indoor humidity and dust mite control:

  • Arlian et al. (JACI, 1999) — keeping mean daily indoor RH below 50% restricted dust mite population growth by more than 97%, even when humidity briefly spiked above 50% for a few hours.
  • Cabrera et al. (JACI, 2001) — homes maintaining indoor RH below 51% across a humid summer had mite allergen levels more than 10× lower than humid homes after 17 months.
  • For a small-room dehumidifier like the DH-002, the goal is to hold a single room within that range rather than to remove large volumes of water.

Why a multi-faceted approach works better than any single tool

Reviews of dust mite intervention studies consistently find that single interventions deliver modest results, but combined approaches deliver meaningful reductions. The 2024 review The Prevention of House Dust Mite Allergies in Pediatric Asthma (Children, MDPI) concluded that most benefits come from combining several interventions rather than relying on one. A multi-faceted approach typically combines:

  • Reducing humidity — what this dehumidifier does. Aim for 40–50% RH year-round.
  • Tracking humidity — pair with an air quality monitor or hygrometer so you can confirm the room is staying in range.
  • Encasing beddingdust mite covers for mattress, pillows and quilt are the single most-evidenced bedroom intervention.
  • Filtering airborne allergens — a HEPA air purifier captures the fine particles dehumidifiers don't address.
  • Neutralising allergens on textiles — an allergen-neutralising spray treats sofas, rugs and other soft surfaces that aren't easily encased.
  • Removing settled allergens — regular vacuuming and washing bed linens in hot water.

A dehumidifier on its own helps, but the research is clear: it works best as part of a layered approach.

What it doesn't do

The DH-002 is a dehumidifier, not a medical device:

  • Not an air purifier in the HEPA sense. The photocatalyst filter is a supplementary feature — it is not a HEPA filter, and we don't make specific airborne particle, VOC, bacterial or viral removal claims for it. For airborne allergen filtration, see our dedicated HEPA air purifier range.
  • Doesn't remove existing mould — it reduces the conditions that favour new mould growth. If you have visible mould, treat the affected surface and identify the moisture source first; the dehumidifier helps prevent it returning.
  • Not a medical device. We don't make claims about treating asthma, allergies or any other health condition.

FAQs

What size room is the DH-002 suited to? Devanti specifies up to 30 m² coverage. In practice, the unit works best in single rooms up to about that size — bathrooms, ensuites, small-to-medium bedrooms, walk-in robes, studies and small laundries. For wardrobes or single cupboards, a mini unit (600 ml or 1000 ml) is more cost-effective; for larger spaces, the Devanti 12L compressor or Shinco SDZ-10L will hold humidity more reliably.

How much water will it actually remove per day in my home? The 500–700 ml/day rating is measured at 30°C and 85% RH — warm, humid test conditions. In a typical Australian indoor environment (cooler and drier than the test setup) you'll see less. The 2 L figure people associate with this unit is the tank capacity, not a daily yield. If you fill the tank quickly, use the continuous-drain hose instead.

What does the Smart Controller do? The included Smart Controller lets you set timers (up to 24 hours) and adjust modes from anywhere in the home. Useful for laundries, ensuites and walk-in robes where the unit is out of easy reach.

Can it run continuously? Yes — connect the supplied 1.5 m water pipe to the drain outlet for continuous drainage to a floor drain or sink. Otherwise the 2 L tank fills up and the unit shuts off; overflow protection prevents spills.

Compressor or desiccant for my situation? The DH-002 is a compressor — operating range 15–32°C, efficient in warm conditions, less so when ambient temperatures fall below ~15°C. The auto-defrost mode helps extend the cooler-end range, but for unheated cool spaces a desiccant unit such as the Ionmax Vienne ION630 (works down to 1°C) is the better choice.

What is the photocatalyst filter for? Photocatalyst filters use UV-activated titanium dioxide. The DH-002 includes one as a supplementary filter, but it is not a HEPA filter and we don't make specific particle, bacterial or VOC removal claims for it.

How loud is it? Under 30 dB — quieter than a typical refrigerator. Suitable for bedroom use overnight.

Care notes

  • Empty the 2 L tank as needed (or use continuous drainage)
  • Wipe the cabinet with a dry cloth
  • Don't operate the unit immediately after moving it from cold storage — let it equalise to room temperature first
  • Use on a level surface

Warranty: 1 year.
